At our club, we enjoy classical music and familiar culture at a venue called Shirogane-ke, a storehouse-style merchant’s house that has stood for over 120 years, spanning the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras.

 

Venue: Shirogane-ke, Takaoka City Yamacho-suji Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

Location: 30 Kommadashi-machi, Takaoka City Toyama 933-0914 

Access: About 15 minutes on foot from Takaoka Station on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway. About 3 minutes on foot from Katahara-machi or Sakashita-machi on the Manyo Line. Please use the city-run Otaya Parking Lot or the city-run Takaoka Chuo Parking Lot.

Mini panel size: 5.0 x 6.5 cm, Base: plain wood

<Optional settings>

Materials: 4,000 yen (Basic set)
Additional charges:
– If you want to add your name, you will need to pay 1,000 yen more for materials (black or vermilion painted “base” and “shell” for name engraving) in addition to the basic set.
– Shipping fee (takes 2 weeks for craftsmen to finish)

Haruki Orihashi / Traditional Craftsman (Instructor)

Living in Takaoka City. Studied under Yoshinori Musashigawa.
Completed the Takaoka Junior College Modeling Research Course.
Certified as a traditional craftsman (decoration department) in 2001.
Established “Raden Studio Orihashi” in 1992.

In order to make the most of the mysterious brilliance of blue shells (polished shells such as abalone), he carefully selects each piece, develops new products with free ideas based on traditional techniques, and proposes new lifestyles.

In order to let more people know about the delicate beauty of blue shells, he also travels both within and outside the prefecture, conducting demonstrations and experience activities. For the past 20 years, he has been teaching many children in the “Manufacturing Design Department” classes at elementary and junior high schools in Takaoka City. Awarded the Japan Traditional Craftsmen’s Association (Meritorious Contributions) in 2018 and the Japan Lacquerware Cooperative Union (Meritorious Contributions) in 2022. Winner of the Gold Award at the 2016 Toyama Prefectural Traditional Crafts Exhibition, the 2020 Prefectural Design Association Chairman’s Award, and the 2022 Japan Lacquerware Joint Technical Technique Award.
